Suggestions for what you can do during ModPo’s “SloPo” season
Here are some ideas for ModPo people who are searching for ways to spend time with ModPo during the “SloPo” season (mid-November through early September):
1) ModPoPLUS. ModPoPLUS is an extensive supplemental syllabus of poems, audio recordings, and videos. You can go week by week through the course, starting with ModPoPLUS part 1 and continuing through ModPoPLUS part 2.
2) Study Groups and Meet-ups. Go to the special discussion forum and find a group you would like to join. Or start your own group.
3) SloPo mini-courses. Each year we will host several short mini-courses. Join one or more of these.
4) CCCR. Read poems and watch videos in the Community Collaborative Close Readings syllabus. And consider making your own CCCR video to add to our collection. Go to the CCCR syllabus page for guidelines as to how to make your own video.
5) PoemTalk. The 200 episodes in this podcast series will take you on a tour of modern and contemporary poets. New PoemTalk episodes are added each month.
6) PennSound. This is the largest archive of recordings of poets reading their own poems. Go HERE to see the list of authors represented in this collection.
7) Jacket2. This magazine, also hosted by the Kelly Writers House, features reviews of new poetry books, commentary posts about themes in modern and contemporary poetry, archives of important but previously hard-to-find poetry magazines, and more.Kelly Writers House poetry readings. Between September and May each year, KWH hosts a series of poetry readings. You can consult the KWH calendar HERE. Every KWH event can be watched via livestream.
8) Create your own ModPo mini-course using modpo.org. Go to modpo.org and click on “Explore ModPo.” Use the search engine we’ve built to create a sampling of poems based on a theme or topic or poet’s influence. Each search result will have a unique and stable web address/URL. You can use this to share your own mini-course with others and perhaps plan to go through the poems and videos together.
