ModPo has begun today — Al’s announcement
ModPo 2019 has begun. It’s good to see, already, a number of lively, generous introductions. You can read them HERE. And please, while you’re there, post an introduction to yourself!
I recommend that you spend some time today or this weekend exploring the ModPo site. Even if you are a returning participant, it will help to click on the links, navigate your way around the discussion forums, check out the main 10-week syllabus, try out at least one video (to make sure it works for you), etc.
Study groups, affinity groups, and in-person meet-ups are gathering and coordinating efforts HERE. Go to the discussion forums main page, then scroll down until you see the forum called “study groups & meet-ups.” Click that forum and see if you can find people in your area who might like to collaborate. Or start your own online study group. The Chicago group is already getting it together. Same with the L.A./SoCal folks, and the south Florida crew, the Philly people, the New York City-ites. If you are in Africa please note that there’s an online convening thread for you.
Meet the famous ModPo TAs HERE. Each of the TAs, and I, will hold a one-hour “office hour” each week. Take a look HERE to see when we are available.
Once again: whenever you’re in the ModPo site, look to the left sidebar menu and click on “Resources.” There’s so much to find there!
Tomorrow we officially open week 1 of ModPo. Of course you can start reading the poems, watching the videos, and posting comments and questions to the subforum for each poem. You need not wait until tomorrow or Monday or later this coming week to get involved with week 1. In any case, tomorrow I’ll be back to talk about week 1 and to describe what I think is the best way to approach reading and responding to our poems.
Meantime, welcome again to ModPo 2019. Tell your friends, family, colleagues, neighbors, et alia, about our course. It’s free and open and we welcome everyone, no matter how much they’ve ever read poetry!
