ModPo update for Saturday, September 21, 2019
I’m enjoying two full days of constant talk about the poet Wallace Stevens out here at the gorgeous Huntington Library. Yesterday I recorded a new ModPo video about Stevens’s poem “Plot against the Giant” with the great poetry critic Charles Altieri. What fun!
Meantime, I’m thinking a lot about our week 3. Yes, ModPo week 3 begins tomorrow. I’ll be back tomorrow to talk about what we hope to accomplish in this week about the rise of poetic modernism. But first here are a few notes and updates and reminders:
If you want to write an essay about the Dickinson poem (for essay #1) please try to post it to the forums today or tomorrow. Next week we will be reading and commenting on your essays. You can submit an essay any time during the ten weeks, of course, BUT if you want comments, it’s best to post now during week 2.
We are making available audio-only files of our ModPo videos. Now you can listen to us talk about poems while you commute, while you drive, while you exercise, while you do the dishes! Go HERE and you’ll see links to the first six weeks of audio-only copies of the main syllabus videos.
You can listen to my audio introduction to week 3 of ModPo right HERE.
A brand new re-make of our video on Marcel Duchamp’s “Fountain” (his readymade consisting of a urinal turned upside down and signed) will very soon be added to the main syllabus. An off-site copy is now available HERE. This video was one of a dozen or more we made in June when most of the ModPo TAs reunited at the Writers House. We will be posting these new videos here and there and I will announce when each is available.
