ModPo people invited to see us in NYC on November 13 at SoHo gallery
Are you in or near New York City? Or will you be in New York on November 13th? Why do I ask?
Fall is in the air, and that means Kelly Writers House people will be heading to NYC to raise support for our student recruitment efforts! Yes, we connect with high school-aged students around the world, especially in far-flung and under-resourced schools, looking for talented writers who might benefit from the kind of caring and attention we provide at the Writers House in Philadelphia.
We’d love for you to join us at our 17th annual “Writers House New York” on Tuesday, November 13th, 2018, at 6:30 pm. I’m thrilled to extend to you an invitation to our gathering. You’ll see the full details below. All of us at KWH would love it if you could join us. Will you?
All best,
—Al
INFORMATION ABOUT OUR NEW YORK CITY EVENT ON NOVEMBER 13, 2018
Please join Kelly Writers House at our 17th annual “Writers House New York” at the Louis K. Meisel Gallery, 141 Prince St, New York, NY 10012 on Tuesday, November 13th, 2018, at 6:30 pm to support our student recruitment efforts. Friends and gallery owners Susan and Louis Meisel will host a cocktail reception before a classic Writers House evening as students, alums, faculty, and friends read original works of poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. (We are very grateful to the Meisels for their generosity!)
This is an intimate event in an intimate space, so seating is strictly limited. To reserve your place today, please call 215.573.9748 or write to rsvp@writing.upenn.edu.
This year’s readers are the 2017-2018 Youth Poet Laureate of Philadelphia, Husnaa Hashim (C’22); 2017 winner of the best Creative Writing Honors Thesis, Pallavi Wakharkar (C’17); PhD candidate in English and beloved ModPo TA, Davy Knittle (G’20) and faculty member and contributing editor at Rolling Stone, Anthony DeCurtis. Finally, I will lead us in a collective collaborative close reading of a short poem. (Yes, at this event I will lead a close reading of a ModPo poem!)
Your attendance at this event will directly support our efforts to connect with exceptional high school student writers around the country. We want to show them — particularly those who believe Penn is beyond their reach financially, geographically, or otherwise — that we care a great deal about supporting creative students in the application process and once they arrive on campus. Our Associate Director for Recruitment, Jamie-Lee Josselyn (C’05), works tirelessly toward these goals.
The $20 per person cost is a tax-deductible contribution to the University of Pennsylvania’s Kelly Writers House Student Recruitment Fund – you can donate in advance at the link below or donate at the door!
You can always donate directly to the KWH Student Recruitment Fund: https://giving.apps.upenn.edu/fund?program=KWH&fund=602786
We hope to see you on November 13th!
