ModPo updates: various, fun, important, misc. (October 1, 2019)
Today the eminent poet Jerome (Jerry) Rothenberg, 88 years young, will be visiting the Writers House, as he does whenever he is touring the east coast. We will be making four new ModPo videos with Jerry at noon today in the Arts Cafe of KWH (if you are in or near Philly, please join us). One of them will be a further discussion of Gertrude Stein’s “The Shawl” (from Tender Buttons). We can’t wait to share that video with you, but meantime here are a few things about “The Shawl” you can find in ModPoPLUS already:
PART TEN: “THE SHAWL”
10.1 read Gertrude Stein’s “The Shawl” from Tender Buttons: LINK TO TEXT
10.2 read Andrea Quaid’s short essay on Stein’s “A Shawl”: LINK TO TEXT
Also, a recent episode of our YouTube video series “ModPoMinute” features Kate Colby (during her visit during week 2) talking with Davy Knittle and me about her poem “Homing.” This video is just 10 minutes long.
This week’s (newest) episode of ModPoMinute features my 6-minute conversation with the important critic of modern poetry, Charles Altieri, about an early poem by Wallace Stevens, “The Plot against the Giant.” Watch this video HERE. You can find the text of this short 1917 poem HERE.
A note about ModPo videos on YouTube: we maintain several playlists. The current ones are for ModPoMinute (weekly short videos each about one poem), the recordings of our 2019 webcasts, and videos for our Teacher Resource Center (TRC). You can also find recordings of all the live webcasts from 2018, 2017, and 2016. Every single ModPo video on YouTube can be seen HERE; this includes most of the “clips” or excerpts we’ve made in order to add to the ModPoPLUS, CCCR, and TRC syllabi. Bored one evening? Go here and play them all! Below are a few selected highlights.
Want to remind yourself of various ModPo updates and announcements (e.g. of new videos)? You can go HERE to modpo.org any time and review all the announcements. Info about new videos can be found HERE. Any announcement pertaining to Gertrude Stein can be found HERE.
