Message sent to all ModPo people on Sunday at the start of week 1 of ModPo ’22
Many of you are beginning to discuss our week 1 poems HERE. I’m enjoying the various approaches and topical emphases. If you want to contribute to our discussion forums, ponder two sorts of posts: 1) create a new thread and offer your thoughts on a poem; or 2) find an already existing thread on a topic that aligns with your interests, and then post a reply.
If you post a discussion forum comment, you will receive email notifications whenever someone adds a reply. At some point you might feel overwhelmed by these notifications, if for instance the thread you follow gets very busy. Don’t give up your participation in the ModPo forums! You can click “Unfollow this post” (see that phrase just underneath the first post in the thread) and you won’t receive further notifications from that thread. Those who posted to the “INTRODUCE YOURSELF HERE” thread might have received many notifications! Don’t despair! Unfollow that thread. If you need help managing your forum notifications, post to “Hopelessly Lost” or “Tech Help” or email us at modpo@writing.upenn.edu — and you will get quick help.
For those returning to ModPo—and/or who have been with us all throughout the months of 2022 already: you might consider dipping into the week 1 poems in ModPoPLUS (one of our parallel syllabi that take you beyond the main 10-week syllabus). HERE is ModPoPLUS for week 1.
OFFICE HOURS begin this week! Each TA hosts a one-hour discussion. Go HERE to learn more and see the links to each TA’s office hour—and a schedule for each week. Below is a list, with links, of the first office hours for the week.
WEBCAST: Set your calendars for this week’s first live webcast—which will start on Wednesday, September 7, at 3 PM Eastern U.S. Time. I’ll have more to say about our famous weekly webcaststomorrow. ModPo webcasts are fun and always full of interesting ideas and spontaneous responses to the poems. The livestream this week will be HERE on YouTube.
With all best wishes,
—Al
